Spend your spring break laying water lines to bring clean water to a community in a developing country, or help to fight deforestation. If you want to stay local, join teens from other religious and ethnic groups right here in Suffolk County for Unity in the Community -- a day of hands-on community service. There are lots of options, just be sure to do something!
American Jewish Society for Service Make a difference this summer. Build low-income houses, live with other Jewish teenagers and explore a new corner of the U.S. in this six-week summer camp work project. AJSS can help to find the right program for you.
American Jewish World Service Participants work for seven weeks with an AJWS partner organization in a rural area in the developing world. Projects require intense physical labor (approximately seven hours a day, five days a week). Structured discussions occur at least four times a week, and opportunities abound for cross-cultural exchange and community building within the group.
Community Service Summer Experience (Sid Jacobson JCC) Community Service Summer Experience (CSE) is the JCC's four or six week community service summer program. The summer combines exciting environmental and social service oriented volunteer projects, adventure, recreation and tons of fun! CSE participants perform over forty hours of community service during the summer.
Friendship Circle Become a big brother/big sister to a young Jewish boy or girl with special needs. We train teenage volunteers to become friends and mentors to these special children, thereby giving them the oppurtunity to have what every child needs - friends, role models and love. JCI/Panim el Panim Explore public policy and social activism through a Jewish lens. Each seminar brings together diverse groups of 10th-12th grade students from around the country for a conference in Washington, D.C. Highlights include lobbying your local Congressperson. Local trips are coordinated by SAJES.
PanimWorks: DC JAM, on the campus of The George Washington University, is a leadership training program for teens passionate about politics, community service, activism and Judaism. You will meet experts, participate in hands-on service projects and develop skills to pioneer change and impact the issues you care about. Two 2-week sessions or a four week session (including a bonus opportunity of a placement in a DC agency) will be offered for students currently in grades 10-12. PanimWorks: Southwest is a cultural exchange and community service program on the Navajo Reservation in the American Southwest. NFTY Mitzvah Corps Days are spent volunteering at sites such as food banks, transition shelters for abused women, and senior citizen homes. Evenings and weekends are dedicated to different Jewish educational programming and group service projects, sightseeing, traveling and social programming.

Teen Intern Program at the Jewish Museum This is an exciting experience for teenagers to explore Jewish history and culture through art and artifacts. As a Teen Intern, you will learn about the Museum's vast collection of Jewish ceremonial art, fine art and artifacts while interacting with the public. Teen Interns work in the Art Activity Center, read stories to children, assist with special Sunday family performances and learn to conduct gallery tours. Unity in the Community (Suffolk Y/JCC) “Unity in the Community” is a day of community service for teens grades 8 through 12. Our goal is to engage teens of diverse ethnic backgrounds in a worthwhile intergroup experience. For one full day, the teens work together to beautify their community in the spirit of good will. The program provides teens with the opportunity to meet one another, and work together at various social service organizations with the common goal of making a difference in the community.
USY on Wheels: Mission Mitzvah Travel through the U.S. and participate in intensive social action projects in the communities you visit. Approximately one-third of the 45-day trip will consist of various hands-on projects that will directly impact the community and people you'll meet and projects that will help improve the community and living situations
